I hosted a lecture this evening for climbers, mountaineers and outdoorserists by Dr Rebecca Williams. As well as being a highly succesful psychologist in the NHS, Rebecca also owns SmartClimbing.co.uk. The lecture centred on simple steps to control anxiety and fear when you are pumped and scared on a climb, in a competition, or during training. About 50% of performance in climbing is mental rather than physical, and the long Q&A session evidenced that the audience realised its importance. Insightful. Inspirational. Educational.
