Bear with me.
The weather yesterday was unbearable. When i woke today it was unbearlievable. Operation Hercules was GO.
Twenty steep and twisty bike miles from Tarbert to Leverburgh to catch the 0935 ferry to Berneray. It is Sunday and everywhere was closed so no caffeine power. Fifteen miles to the Langais woodland (west of Lochmaddy). And a few minutes of gravel riding to find Hercules. Or rather a wooden carving of him, and his grave.
In case you’ve no idea who Herc is … while filming for a Kleenex television commercial on Benbecula on 20 August 1980, Hercules managed to escape, going missing for 24 days. A rescue attempt joined by hundreds of volunteers, search parties, Army and Navy was launched. He was found having a swim on North Uist on 10 Sept. He’d lost half his bodyweight. Once recovered he went on to star in, amongst other things, Octopussy).
Then i reversed the route.
A bit sun bearnt, tired, and bearoken now. 🐻
