‘Warm and Dead’

A phrase in the medical treatment of hypothermia is that the casualty isn’t dead until ‘they’re warm and dead’.

Advances in medical care around very very low body temperatures have been remarkable.

There is an article here by Keswick MRT on the treatment of a deeply hypothermic victim.

It’s vitally important that medics and mountain rescuers stay abreast of this subject, and perhaps even moreso that people carry the right kit to give themselves a fighting chance.

Well done to all involved in the multi-agency response to this call-out.
