Flower and Fruit and Freelance

Grand day out yesterday teaching intermediate navigation. I was ‘freelancing’* for the day, and working for my friends at PureOutdoor who are based in the Hope Valley.

Drier than it was forecast. Calluna Vulagaris just starting to flower purple, and the bilberry on and around Win Hill were very tasty too.

Good to be out passing on skills and knowledge.

I’m available to lead guided walks (one day + multiple day + backpacking trips), and to teach navigation (from beginner to advanced) for private bookings of 1:1 or small groups, in the Peak District, Yorkshire Dales, Lake District, and Snowdonia.

*The earliest written evidence for ‘freelance’ comes from Sir Walter Scott’s Ivanhoe, in which a lord refers to his paid army of ‘free lances’. When freelance first came into English in the early 1800s, it was used to refer to a medieval mercenary who would fight for whichever nation or person paid them the most.
