Interrupted Journeys

A book about a man that eschews normal interactions with society and instead spends countless hours, day and night, all year round, caring for, monitoring and rescuing wild animals in Yorkshire.

The person that bought me the book (for Christmas) read the sleeve notes and thought it might have been about me!

On reading it there are many many experiences that i can fully relate to. The author focuses on protecting wild animals whereas i guess i’m mostly involved in protecting landscape (and the nature therein) from humans.

Many of the recollections herein of doing odd things in the dead of night in adverse weather for the sake of nature, resonated. As did the authors honesty about the cost and isolation of all that time spent mopping up the mess of the human-nature interface.

I probably ought to try and have a brew with him.

I thought it an honest, detailed and excellent book .. but it won’t be for everyone.
