Note To Self

Just a reminder to myself (and anyone else that’s on ‘ere) that for every negative encounter with people on the moors and paths hereabouts there’s 10, 20 or 30 positive ones.

Chatting about the weather or routes with folks out walking, cycling, horse riding, birdwatching or running. Depleting my supply of biscuits for a four legged outdoorserist and giving freely of a fuss. Trying to offer help and advice and a ‘why’ about some of the ways and hows of the countryside and how people recreate in it.

There’s about 50,000 views a month of this account despite me not really knowing what i’m doing with the posts and also me deleting or blocking several hundred people a month that mostly seem to want a fight or have a feed full of the flag of St George 🧐.

I know it’s read by lots of outdoor instructors, land managers and environmental organisations and has been cited as a useful factual resource of ground truth in recent meetings (that i wasn’t invited to 🧐).

A sort of ‘Outdoor Advisory Service’™️
( … that’d be a great name for the podcast i’ve been meaning to start for 3 yrs but never had the time 🙄).

Anyway, here’s some more morsels for you …

1 – Toyota RAV4’s now join Nissan Navara’s as vehicles that criminals can access and steal without the key. The one in the pic was nr Owler Bar this morning. My friends in Derbyshire Police tell me 11 stolen this weekend.

2 – HPAI aka bird flu is on the rise. Updated RSPB guidance if you find any dead wild birds:

  • Do NOT touch them or move them.
  • Take a photo and note the location and share asap with RSPB.

…. and remember folks, always look on the bright side ..
