Wyming Brook POW Cave

Easy to use instructions for how to find the cave that two German POWs hid in after they escaped from Redmires Camp

Park in (or walk or ride to) Wyming Brook Reserve car park.

Take the 2nd footpath on the left (which is just after the end of the car park)

Sign post looks like this –

Stay on that path for maybe 800m until you see this obvious tree on your left  (note the small post next to it too)

at that point on the track turn right and carefully descend the crag face on a path and turn right and traverse underneath the crag

In maybe 50-100m you’ll see this corner of the crag

and just past it this tree trunk

at this point (looking at this tree) the entry to the cave is BEHIND you

The etchings are obvious on the right wall just inside the entrance – including ‘1944’ believed to have been made by the prisoners.

and you can safely crawl in

The other photos are a few views in and out. Some great views across to the city.

Enjoy your visit, please don’t light a fire and please look after the place 👍

Tea and cake after at Brook Cafe in Fullwood (7 days) or the little Blue Moo cafe in the farm on Soughley Lane (weekends only)

You can of course plot a walk from the car park adjacent to the woods in which the POW camp was that the Germans escaped from and walk to Wyming Brook from there. The car park is immediate left AFTER the Sportsmans Inn on Redmires Lane
