The clip is from a video by ‘Chunky Captain Does It All’ called ‘2 Days Wild Camping & Hiking In The Peak’ which was uploaded to Youtube 4 days ago.
There’s some sensible content in the video about preparedness for adventuring outdoors in the winter. It’s been viewed about 175 times and the channel has over 200 subscribers.
It normalises fire in a National Park. Open fires of any kind (even those using a fire tray) aren’t permitted anywhere in open country in the Peak District National Park. The fire is also on SSSI land. There is a Public Space Protection Order in place and fines of up to £1000 are applicable.
This is clearly articulated on the Peak District website and the issues and impacts around fires in the countryside have taken up more media space in 2025 than in any year.
The author of the post is an articulate chap and states that he is a ‘pilot’ and therefore should be used to understanding regulations and risks.
It’s not ‘okay’ to excuse this by saying ‘it’s winter and everywhere is soaking’. There seems to be little appreciation about the flammability of dead vegetation over winter – for example the enormous quantities of dead bracken will burn if lit.
These types of videos are literally cited when we extinguish fires ‘…. Sorry mate i thought it was allowed, i saw a bloke on YouTube doing it here a few months ago so we thought it was okay’ is an oft heard justification.
I’m also posting it to reiterate that fires are a year round issue in the Peak. I’d guesstimate that we encounter them on at least 40 weekends of the year, year round.
Rather than posting the uploads from specific individuals here online we (rangers) normally forward the clips (of fires, drug dealing, illegal off roading, poaching, fly tipping etc etc) direct to the authorities. Both constabularies are active in pursuing individuals for rural offences via socia media posts. We have lots of experience but no enforcement powers.

**Update** – i was informed by a reader of my blog that the person that posted the video has deleted my comment. That serves only to further tighten the seal around his echo chamber.
