I had the audacity to take the first Saturday night off in a long time from my volunteer patrol ranger role this weekend (in my defence i had a bit part in rehoming a collie). My son deputised for me.
Various incidents from Saturday to keep you appraised of what’s going on and what to look out for …
The first photograph was another episode of flytipping then igniting the waste. Thankfully it was witnessed and @derbyshireconstabulary are on the case. Thanks yet again to @derbyshirefrs for attending and quickly controlling the fire.
The second photograph is one of two fires lit by campers in the bone dry Bole Hill woodland.
The third one is parking, camping and lighting a BBQ in Shillito Woods despite there being signs asking people not to do so. People travelling to Scotland that decided to break their journey by camping and having a BBQ here, despite being 3.8 miles from an actual campsite.
As the weekend was drawing to a close this evening (Sunday) an informant reported smoke on Curbar Edge. Three of us responded to find a 20 person family group having a very large barbecue. They claimed that they hadn’t seen the ‘no fires or barbecues’ signs in the car park and on the gates to the Edge. The fire was extinguished and they were all invited to leave.
The next photograph (taken whilst investigating reports of off road driving at Stanage) was of smoke from Beeley direction. Thankfully this turned out to be ‘just’ a skip fire over there.
